Recent heb ik een hele leuke site ontdekt, genaamd 1000 Awesome Things.
Op deze site wordt er afgeteld van 1000 naar 1 met dingen uit het dagelijks leven die gewoon 'Awesome' zijn. Ze zijn begonnen in juni 2008 en zijn nu bij #517.
Deze maand is in Amerika The Book of Awesome uitgekomen en binnenkort verschijnt het ook in Nederland. Zeker weten dat ik dat boek aan mijn collectie ga toevoegen!
Kijk maar eens op de site. Het zijn hele herkenbare dingen en je wordt er lekker vrolijk van!
Op één of andere manier kan ik het niet voor elkaar krijgen fatsoenlijk een link in m'n blog te zetten, dus je zult even moeten knippen en plakken...

On leadership #3
Misschien wel één van mijn meest favoriete film scènes aller tijden. Luitenant Colonel Frank Slade, gespeeld door Al Pacino (hij won een Oscar met deze film) geeft een speech over leiderschap en integriteit tijdens het eind van de film 'Scent of a Woman'.
Charlie (gespeeld door Chris O'Donnell) staat op het punt geschorsd te worden van school omdat hij niet wilt vertellen wat hij gezien heeft. Andere mensen die duidelijk bij deze zaak betrokken zijn en hoogstwaarschijnlijk de daders zijn, worden vrijgelaten, omdat ze rijk zijn.

Leadership is an invisible strand
as mysterious as it is powerful. It pulls and it bonds.
It is a catalyst that creates unity out of disorder.
Yet, it defies definition. No combination
of talents can guarantee it. No process or training
can create it where the spark does not exist.
The qualities of leadership are universal:
They are found in the poor and the richt, the humble
and the proud, the common man, and the brilliant
thinker; they are qualities that suggest paradox
rather than pattern. But wherever they are found
leadership makes things happen.
The most precious and intangible quality
of leadership is trust - the confidence that the one
who leads will act in the best interest of those
who follow - the assurance that he will serve the group
without sacrificing the rights of the individual.
Leadership's imperative is a 'sense of rightness'
- knowing when to advance and when to pause, when to
criticize and when to praise, how to encourage others
to excel. From the leader's reserves of energy
and optimism, his followers draw strength. In his
determination and self-confidence, they find inspiration.
In its highest sense, leadership is integrity.
This command by conscience asserts itself more
by commitment and example than by directive. Integrity
recognizes external obligations, but it heeds

K'Naan's Wavin' Flag
Al een tijdje heb ik de albums van K'Naan op mijn laptop staan. K'naan is een Somalische dichter, rapper en muzikant. Tijdens een oorlog in Somalië is hij naar Amerika gevlucht en heeft hij leren dansen op de Amerikaanse rapmuziek voordat hij überhaupt Engels kon spreken. Zijn muziek is Engels en heeft een soort van Afrikaanse invloed, heel relaxt...
Wat blijkt nu?? Een nummer van zijn laatste album 'Troubadour' is gekozen als deel van de geïntegreerde marketing campagne van Coca Cola voor het WK voetbal in Zuid-Afrika in 2010! Het nummer heet Wavin' Flag en is dus te horen tijdens de reclames van Coca Cola voor het WK. Er is ook een spaanstalige versie van het nummer opgenomen...
